Project Wonderful - Publishers make the most money

Instead of setting a fixed price for advertising, they use their innovative Infinite Auction model. Advertisers name the price they want to pay (and when they want to pay it), and whoever is willing to pay the most gets their ad shown! It's profitable and fair to both you and the advertiser, and allows prices to respond quickly to changes in your site.

Step 1.
You create a personalized advertising area for your site. You set the terms of the auction and can approve every bid.

Step 2.
Readers bid on your advertising space, competing for the best deal. As soon as someone is the high bidder, their ad is shown. Anyone can become the high bidder at any time, and you can cancel any bid you don't like.

Step 3.
Profit! It really is as simple as that.

BloggerAds - Advertiser Network for Chinese Bloggers with Traditional Chinese Character

BloggerAds is a Taiwan based advertiser network for bloggers who write their blogs in Traditional Chinese characters. Well, this is of course a very localised advertiser for the Taiwan bloggers. Interestingly, they got this expanded type advertisement that you can't find in most advertisement platform. One example is shown in the figure below.

However, for Taiwan blogger, you will be charged 15% for the tax, while foreigners will be charged 20% for tax. Seems like no matter how much you earn, you will be taxed 15% at least, quite a lot!

Speed up your Windows Vista

Sidebar gadget: If you don't need the "gadget"in the Vista sidebar, get rid of them. Right-click the Windows Sidebar icon in the taskbar tray and choose Exit. Open the Control Panel and launch Windows Sidebar Properties in the 'Appearance and Personalization' category. Uncheck Start sidebar when Windows starts and click OK.

User Account Control (UAC): Irritated by the system that keep asking for your permission to install software, or gives you warning when you try to add, remove, or rename any of your Start menu folders? Turn it off. Choose Start, Control Panel, click User Accounts and Family Safety, and select User Accounts. Or just click Start, type User Accounts, and choose that option from the search results. Next, click Turn User Account Control on or off, and then click Continue when prompted.

Change the appearance: disable those fancy display stuff, right-click the My Computer \ Properties \ Advanced \ Adjust for best performance.

Spend more Power: If you don't mind spending more, you can boost your system's performance by adjusting its power options. In the Control Panel, launch Power Options in the 'System and Maintenance' category. Select High Performance, close the dialog box (see the screen shot at left), and prepare yourself for a higher electric bill.

Change the default Shut Down button: The default action for the Power button on the start menu in Windows Vista is Sleep, which isn't necessarily useful for everybody. You can configure this setting easily by using the advanced power settings panel. Control Panel \ Power Options \ Change Plan Settings \ Change Advanced Power Settings.

Vista's Snipping Tool: Of course not all Vista's features are slow. There is this snipping tool, which provides a great screen shot function. If you have a version of Vista other than Home Basic, you already have the Snipping Tool screen capture utility: Choose Start, All Programs, Accessories, Snipping Tool. If you don't see it there, it may not be activated. Go to Control Panel and open Program and Features (you may have to click Programs first). In the task pane on the left, click Turn Windows features on or off. Scroll through the list of features, check the box next to Tablet PC Optional Components, and click OK. Turning on these features gives you not only the Snipping Tool, but also the Tablet PC Input Panel, Windows Journal, and other stylus-related features.

It is all about Twitters - for beginners to advanced users

Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

Twitterfeed and RSStoTwitter are two online tools that can help you automatically publish your RSS feed (e.g. your blog) to your Twitter account:

1. Enter the URL of the RSS feed you want to tweet.
2. Enter your Twitter details (e.g. username and password).
3. They will publish your RSS feed to your Twitter account.

Tiny URL will create a tiny URL that will not break in email postings and never expires. And this is particular useful as Twitter limits every update to only 140 characters.

TwitPic lets you share photos on Twitter.

RevTwt has the solution for earning money with Twitter: they give you links to post on your Twitter account, and you earn money each time someone clicks on your link!

Posting a Twitter address is easy to do online, but until now there have been few offline opportunities for consumers and businesses to recruit new Twitter followers. Jumping at the entrepreneurial opportunity, StickyTwits (@stickytwits) designs stickers featuring Twitter addresses for easy distribution in the analogue world. The idea for StickyTwits came from a signage designer and a marketing expert who wanted to stick their Twitter URLs on their cars, computers, office windows, etc.

Pizza Hut's new "twinternship" is a full-time, 10- to 12-week paid assignment to work with the PR team at the company's Dallas headquarters this summer. The intern will focus on new and emerging social media, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and others, and will be given "unprecedented access" to marketing meetings, brainstorming sessions, ad shoots and special events, the company says. He or she will be creating and posting videos, conducting media outreach and assisting with national PR programs will also be part of the job, as will managing the company's new Twitter page.

iPhone and iPod Touch users, you like to check it out at Twitter Fon and Tweetie iPhone

Blogspot allows upload of Animated GIF, but there is a bug

In the past, if you want to upload an animated gif like the one below to your blog using Blogspot, you will have a great difficulty. Either you use the 3rd party image hosting or you upload to your Google Doc, then share it to your blog. Finally, Blogspot realise this difficulty, and allows the upload of animated GIF directly using the Blogspot build in image upload function.

However, there is a bug! After you try to upload, you will notice that there will be unlimited of upload, non stopable uploading of the same image over and over again. End up, many duplicated copies of the same animated GIF will be added to your blog, a screen shot is taken below:

Let hope someone at Blogger can hear me. I don't really like the way to feedback in Google Group, I still prefer the old style with contact us, at least I can assure my feedback is read.

Adsense showing two different earning at Reports and My Account

In fact, I never check the earning in Reports and My Account of Google Adsense in the past, my default, I assume them to be the same. Until last month March earning, where I remember I get just over $200 in the report. But then when I see the earning history in my account, it was displayed as $199.90, $0.10 (in fact, should be $0.14) is missing!

The above is monthly report, lets see in My Account, Payment History:

Not sure why is that so, as I never pay attention to it before. You may take a look at your account, see if such things happen. Anyway, it is just a small different, after the exchange rate fluctuation, you will notice nothing.

Lieber Nutzer,

FeedBurner RSS Feeds not updating

Not sure if it is the news that Google going to lay 0ff demoralize the spirit of the staffs. More and more Google services are now having glitches. Many of the RSS Feeds through FeedBurner are not updated. Look at the screen shot below, the last update is on 29 March!

If you try to troubleshot, by either Ping the Feedburner or even resync the feed, it provides no help at all.

So lets join in the forum forum and hope the problem draws the attentio of the Google team.

Personally, I suspect the cause to be following:

1) Only those RSS that subscribe the Adsense Feed services are affected.
2) If your published post has a published date in the future, then very likely your feed will be affected.

So lets wait for a solution, either official or unofficial.

Images that Google Street removed

Google has removed dozens of photos from its new Street View service. The firm has been forced to pull some of the images after complaints. A spokesperson for Google told the BBC that anyone could have their images removed if they asked.

Offending photos have been replaced by a black image with the message "This image is no longer available". However, many of the images can still be viewed by moving up or down a notch on the street. So let us look at some examples:

I am sure, you don't want your buddy see you being hit by your wive:

Google Earth found a 1,000-year-old fishing trap

The 260m long construction is thought to have been built 1,000 years ago, using large rocks placed on a river bed. They found a huge V-shape was clearly visible on the satellite images and divers were sent down to examine the structure.

Google Earth to narrow in on its precise location. Scientists estimate the stone fish trap to be 1,000 years old, the oldest underwater structure made by man, discovered in Wales. Scientists say, the sea level was much lower thousands of years ago, and the original fish trap was above water. Only a few ancient fish traps remain in Wales, once a thriving coastal fishing community.

Scientists believe large numbers of people worked together to erect the trap and it allowed them to catch plentiful numbers of fish for their supper. The trap is believed to have been made from locally quarried rock, or possibly boulders carried in by glaciers during the last Ice Age.

Archaeologists say medieval communities constructed stone fishing traps to catch fish and scooped them out with nets as the tide rolled out. This particular stone trap is larger than normal and would have required many medieval laborers to haul in the heavy boulders to construct it. The trap in the estuary of the River Teifi, near Cardigan, West Wales, lay undiscovered for a millennium until a strange underwater shape was spotted from a plane flying overhead.

Unlike the previous case, this discovery is real.

Solution to bX errors when uploading or updating template in Blogspot

Recently, whenever you try to upload or update or change a template in Blogspot Blogger, you will experience this "bX-bliced" errors. In later stage, the errors becomes all sort of numbers include: "bX-y6cz0v", "bX-8dyqz0", "bX-si9ejx", all sort of varieties. And here comes the solutions:

1. Open the new template XML file in any text editor, preferably WordPad (right click --> Open With --> WordPad).

2. “Ctrl + F” and search for the word "widget id"

3. Replace the "b:widget id='Anything1'" to "b:widget id='Anything11'" (example "b:widget id='Header1'" to "b:widget id='Header11'"), you can replace the number into any number you want, but must be at least double digit, 1 to 11, 2 to 22, etc... is a good choice.

Google Adsense adds in Host ID on top of Pub ID

Google Adsense and Blogspot Blogger have been recently make significant changes on the adsense advertisement on blog. In the past, all you need is to identify your adsense publisher ID (called google_ad_client), your adsense slot ID (called google_ad_slot). Now, there is a new identity being added - Google Adsense Host ID (called google_ad_host).

Publisher ID is to identify your account, such that all the click on ads will generate income to your account.

Slot ID is to identify the particular adsense identity, e.g. the channel, the color, the size.

The new Host ID is to identify the blogger host that host the ads. This may due to the fact that many people has many Blogspot account, and in order to obtain Google paycheck every month, different Blogspot account share the same Adsense Publisher ID.

The new code looks something like:

google_ad_client = "pub-1234567890123456";
google_ad_host = "pub-9876543212345678"; (<-- this line is something new)
google_ad_slot = "35678901245";
google_ad_width = 250;
google_ad_height = 250;

Don't be surprise if you didn't see that line when you obtain the code from Adsense. That line will be added by Blogspot after you paste your Adsense code into your blog. It will be added even nif you add the adsense code directly to your template. And this may explain the recent glitch happen at Blogspot.

9000 years legend Atlantis found?

Last week, a British man announced he'd found the lost city of Atlantis using Google Ocean -- the latest add-on to Google Earth that features 3D bathymetry, which lets you explore the ocean floor. A Google Ocean image of an underwater section of the Atlantic ocean at 31 15'15.53N 24 15'30.53W is drawing wide attention as a possible location of the lost city of Atlantis. The location is about 700 miles off the coasts of Morocco and Portugal and fits in very nicely with the whereabouts of Atlantis, as described by Plato.

Plato described it as an island "larger than Libya and Asia put together" in front of the Pillars of Hercules - the Straits of Gibraltar. He said Atlantis was a land of fabulous wealth, advanced civilisation and natural beauty destroyed by earthquakes and floods 9,000 years earlier. The legend of Atlantis has excited the public imagination for centuries. In recent years "evidence" of the lost kingdom has been found off the coast of Cyprus and in southern Spain.

The sharp outlines and uniform wall-like structures seen in the image are believed by many to be completely unnatural and the result of manmade activity and his structures. What can be seen clearly are several nearly straight lines, near perfect rectangles and what may be roads extending out toward dry land. The structure is currently under several thousand feet of water and was only recently made available thanks to the Ocean extension of Google Earth. Experts had said this was one of the possible sites of the city described by Plato, the Greek philosopher.

Google Earth has been responsible for several amazing discoveries in the past as the company pointed out: "It's true that many amazing discoveries have been made in Google Earth -- a pristine forest in Mozambique that is home to previously unknown species, a fringing coral reef off the coast of Australia, and the remains of an Ancient Roman villa, to name just a few." Unfortunately, Atlantis will not be added to this list, as Google dismisses 'Atlantis find'.

Despite Google's denial, some conspiracy theorists reject the company's explanation and say the search giant might be participating in a cover-up.

Google map guides him drive through the ocean

The new version of Google Earth 5.0 lets users explore the oceans, view images of Mars, and watch the Earth's surface change over time. But this doesn't mean that as a human being, we can drive through the ocean. Lets take a look on this video, and see how Google Map guide this guy to drive through the ocean.

Well, the above maybe just some minor technical glitch. The real breakthrough is the newest version Google Earth, it lets you see what is under the water, what is on the MARS, and let you dive down under the water.

You can explore thousands of data points including videos and images of ocean life, details on the best surf spots, logs of real ocean expeditions, and much more.

Unfortunately, it is not a free software, only free for 7-day trial.
